Calder Stewart Industries

Avon Glen Forest Region (2010)

Calder Stewart Forestry's humble beginnings.

It began with a few trees and a long term vision, some 30+ years ago.

"People may not realise that every year we plant more than 120,000 tree seedlings, which will on average absorb over 30 tonnes of carbon per hectare every year, once mature."

Craig Maaka
Calder Stewart Forestry

Calder Stewart Forestry, a unique division of Calder Stewart Industries, has operated under the premise that cooperating with nature has its benefits. In what started off 30 years ago as a few trees planted in gullies on a local Milton farm, has now become a fully grown and mature forest. Over the same period of time, Calder Stewart itself has become one of the major private forest owners in the Otago region. While planting trees is a business investment, being environmentally responsible aligns with our ethos and principles - be responsible and do it right. Today we grow a number of Radiata Pine, Douglas Fir and Macracarpa plantations with some of our more mature forests now undergoing harvest.
