Creating a new purpose-build commercial premises for one of the South Island’s most respected legal firms came about via a long-term connection with AWS Legal. “It’s quite a thing to have Calder Stewart once again working with the next generation of our legal team on a new premises,” notes Norman Elder, a partner with the firm. Norman has worked closely with the Calder Stewart team for most of those 35 years and continues to enjoy the engagement to this day. “We asked Calder Stewart to design and build the new premises to create both a suitable client experience, and somewhere our whole team could enjoy the working environment,” he added. With clear delineation between the client experience downstairs and the legal team upstairs, the benefits are clear to see. “We can host events for staff and clients, as the building allows us to open into some broader spaces. It works really well,” Elder added.

The AWS Legal team moved in just prior to the end of 2021 and have purposefully changed up how the day to day of a law firm is set up. There are a mix of pods for teams to work together in, alongside offices for more private conversations. One of the key benefits is that everyone has access to a window, for natural light. There is also the added benefit of the spaces creating a more inclusive culture for the AWS Legal team. It’s an easy environment to be in and work in, with the additional benefit of a large deck for those lovely long Invercargill evenings. “I may be slightly biased, but I think it’s one of the sharpest commercial buildings in Invercargill,” Norman added. We agree and wish AWS Legal all the best for their next 30 years.
