GPC Asia Pacific is recognised for its national retail footprint of Repco and Napa Auto Parts brands. This distribution centre is located on Calder Stewart-sourced land in Wiri, South Auckland and consolidates more than eleven existing operations into one facility.
This project is distinct due to both its scale and the highly automated nature of the facility. As supply chain and logistics operators become more focused on efficiencies across their operations, the use of automation is becoming more commonplace which requires a significant amount of coordination, planning and problem solving at the outset of a project such as GPC’s new facility.
GPC’s initial requirement was for two separate buildings as a potential solution. Utilising our experience in designing high functioning operations facilities, Calder Stewart Property and Construction teams optimised the design into an integrated, single structure. This proved to be a better fit and delivered deeper project efficiencies, room for expansion and cost savings.
Our team is very adept at programming a building project to integrate a high degree of client fit out. Here, they worked with GPC's automation suppliers to develop the highly technical design for the independent concrete slab to support the stable performance of the automated storage and retrieving systems and sequenced all the work on the building and yards to allow for the long duration of ASRS racking system fit out while the balance of the facility was still being constructed.
A high level of communication was maintained enabling all parties to achieve their critical programme requirements as the project moved through its construction, fit out and client handover stages. Our team now completed a number of these projects which puts us in a strong position to provide end-to-end solutions for future industrial automation requirements.
