With 3,500m² of coverage, this facility encompasses a two-storey office section and warehouse with three loading bays and a cantilevered canopy.
Highbrook Business Park is home to over 100 global and local companies and holds nearly 500,000m² of available space. It is situated in an extensive and beautifully landscaped section in East Tamaki, just minutes away from Auckland’s CBD and the international airport. Spearheaded by property developer Goodman Ltd, the business park focuses on providing business premises to clients needing strategically located warehousing. Highbrook distinguishes itself by offering additional value-added amenities, including eateries and facilities for childcare, exercise and business conferencing.
Calder Stewart has a longstanding partnership with Goodman Ltd — this particular build, located just off Highbrook Drive, is the fourth in a succession of such projects. We also have a long history as a developer, particularly for Design Build warehousing, and this project showcased our ability in a supporting role as contractors.
Thanks to our Auckland team, the build was awarded to us on an open tender basis. The design, however, originated with Goodman Ltd, led by Eclipse Architecture and Structural Engineers, MSC. Reliance on in-house building supplies and ‘warehouse design acumen’, which we usually bring, were unnecessary.
Construction of the facility presented unusual challenges, including extensive earthworks at a corner of the site to accommodate a two-storey, 400m² office section. The warehouse, measuring nearly 75m long, with a ceiling height of over 13m, offers a total build area of 3,500m². The space is accented by its use of clear lighting from the roof section and vertically along the sides of the building.
The main warehouse is equipped with three loading bays and large-scale doors, covered by a cantilevered canopy. The bays face an extensive exterior, supporting multiple truck rigs. The 5,900m² site on which the project is situated faces a landscaped water inlet, a feature unique to Highbrook Business Park.
Work on the facility took eight months to complete and was signed off in December 2019. Goodman Ltd is currently leasing it to their tenant Hellmann.
