This 7,187m² is divided into two sections; a canopied, 5-bay workshop with a clear-lit roof and an office, located out front.
The Calder Stewart property team has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with AB Equipment, an industry-leading firm specialising in the supply and servicing of heavy equipment within New Zealand. This project in Mosgiel is an upgrade and relocation for the client, who had outgrown their existing premises in South Dunedin. The new project is similar in style to one we had completed for the client in Christchurch, with a service centre composed of office and showroom sections.
Contractually, the project benefitted from negotiated price agreements, which is often the case in repeat business arrangements when we undertake a complete Design Build solution. What ultimately allowed the project to move forward was the advantageous location chosen by a third-party landowner, Helensvale Properties Limited, who entered into lease agreements with AB Equipment directly.
As a Design Build project, we broke down the facility into two main sections. The first is a canopied, 5-bay workshop area at the back, measuring 850m². It comes equipped with a clear-lit roof and a 5-tonne gantry crane, which transverses the entire build length. The second section is a 360m² office located at the front.
Precast concrete panels from our in-house plant in Christchurch were used throughout the facility, later painted on-site to match the AB Equipment brand colours and give the building character. The construction site also proved to have its challenges, with much topsoil needing to be removed before construction began.
The completed unit on Dukes Road North is strategically situated in Mosgiel’s growing industrial business section. Construction proceeded efficiently, benefitting from good communication with subcontractors. The tenant was well pleased with the outcome, with all primary deadlines met and AB Equipment moving in on time.
