This 8,000m² industrial warehouse was a property team project utilising prime Christchurch land, picked from our profile by client Winstone Wallboards. The property is now a part of the FortHill Property portfolio.
You might not have heard of Winstone Wallboards Ltd, but you will have heard of their product — they're New Zealand's only manufacturer of GIB® brand plasterboard.
Winstone Wallboards Ltd manufactures a large chunk of the interior wall lining market as part of the Building Products Division of Fletcher Building, another of our repeat clients. Given their rapid growth, it was apparent a new storage facility would soon need to be erected to keep up with manufacturing and distribution. So, the client selected a prime section in Hornby from our land portfolio, ready for a 9,982m2 industrial warehouse.
While the structure is simple, a short delivery timeframe made it a demanding project. Initial designs were developed within a month, and the consent stage was split in two. This often-used approach allows us a quicker delivery time; here, we were able to rapidly complete the superstructure first, with consent for the fit-out and services coming later. We also provided them with our own space as a temporary stopgap while the project got underway.
Utilising our manufacturing supply chain allowed us to deliver earlier than specified in the contract, with few design variations. The ground was broken in September 2018, with the first half of the building handed over before the Christmas break.
