Standing at just 1,000m², this award-winning facility is warehouse, office and retail space and boasts an oversized doorway among its distinct architectural features.
The Dunedin City Council, on behalf of designated tenant Oakleys Plumbing, was seeking to erect a built-to-purpose facility for their base of operations. However, the site they had in mind required extensive remediation to make it suitable for their purposes, including the demolition of the existing outdated structures. An experienced building company was needed to provide them with a turnkey solution.
We put forward a Design Build solution that met both objectives of the future tenant — a facility with a warehouse section to house the servicing, parts inventory, public office and retail section, which would showcase Oakley's line of available products to the public.
Despite practicality issues and budgetary restrictions, we managed to leverage our design acumen, particularly across our precast panel construction. The result was the delivery of a unique build tailored to the client. Winner of the Registered Master Builders Silver Award in the Commercial Project category, the building features an oversized doorway, iconic branding and a simple yet notable architectural sophistication.
A flexible construction management approach was maintained to allow the tenant to occupy the warehouse section of the building whilst the retail office area was still being completed. As we were used to working under these conditions, this proved no problem, and we were able to have the facility itself running well before the final detailing on the site was completed.
