This 3,200m² air and ocean freight terminal incorporates an 800m² freezer, a two-level office complex and 1,700m² of dry storage.
National freight handler Mainfreight planned to expand its operations by building a new air and ocean freight terminal in the Christchurch area. Ideally, they wanted it to be situated close to Christchurch International Airport for logistics reasons. We forwarded a solution to the client, which called for a Design Build solution on a tract of development land sourced from our airspace portfolio of freehold land, close to Christchurch airport.
The final 3,200m2 facility incorporates an 800m2 freezer, a two-level office complex and 1,700m2 of dry storage, all outlined in the client’s requirements.
Mainfreight has operated a traditional open market tender process for their builds in the past, so our Design Build approach to this project was new for them. Our ability to streamline the construction process and supply structural steel and precast concrete through our integrated supply chain added a significant measure of efficiency and cost savings and ultimately won us the tender for a repeat client of ours.
